Broadcast Engineer in a dynamic international entertainment news support role.
About This Role:
Our client is looking for a Broadcast Engineer in Charge to manage day-to-day production operations and control room technology. This person would be located in their London office and oversee control room operations for a live OTT entertainment news network, as well as other future projects.
Description of the Role
This is a hands-on role that requires the ability to work directly with the production and editorial staff as the Engineer In Charge. The right candidate should be a proactive and positive thinker with the ability to exercise good judgement even under the pressure of a live transmission environment.
You should be confident in taking ownership of tasks and seeing them through to completion and have strong organisational, analytical and reasoning skills enabling you to communicate technical explanations and processes effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Organised and time-focused, you must also be proactive in identifying and executing more efficient processes, and new projects, covering preventive maintenance and managing system and workflow upgrades.
The ability to coordinate initiatives between Broadcast Engineering and Operations, IT, post-production, and Management is essential.
•Ensure that the live production runs efficiently and smoothly on a day-to-day basis
•Act as the liaison between control room staff and (consulting) Engineering team, escalating issues as appropriate.
•Troubleshoot day to day production issues with a range of studio and remote production equipment.
•Put processes and practices in place to ensure technical and production crew are supported and have the tools and processes to perform their roles effectively.
•Responsible for the information in production reports; including knowing what the information means, gaps that require discussion and trends that appear.
•Have transparency into crew and understand the detailed status of the production and show formats
•Escalate challenges and issues to the Consultant Technical Director and when appropriate other management. Come with proposed solutions. Help generate analytical reports regarding the state of current technical affairs and emerging technology
•Participate in production meetings to ensure clear communication and dissemination of information
•Enable and contribute to a culture that creates an environment where the crew can do their best work
•5+ Years in Television Broadcast field with a demonstration of taking on greater responsibilities
•Experience with traditional video and audio engineering and troubleshooting signal flow including RF and fibre networks.
•Knowledgeable in all areas of technical production and familiar with all studio production equipment including Broadcast Audio, Video and Control Systems, Video Servers, Storage Area Networks, & RF Systems,Editing and Post-Production Systems.
•Exposure, experience and enthusiasm for as many of the following cutting-edge technologies as possible;
o NDI configuration, troubleshooting and management and discovery using NDI Access Manager.
o NewTek Tricaster TC1
o Quicklink Studio and Skype TX
o Birddog PTZ cameras and CCU protocols
o Graphics presentation and playout software, specifically New BlueTitler Broadcast v4.
o Unity Intercom
•File management using Synology NAS, Dropbox and Google Drive File Stream.
•Hands-on management of WAN and VPN configuration using port forwarding, IPSec, SSL and EoIP.
•Experience of configuring and troubleshooting both Windows 10 and Mac OS X Operating Systems, specifically network configuration, version management and driver updates.
•Manage software and firmware updates of critical I.T. and broadcast equipment
•Remote support and configuration of I.T equipment using Team Viewer
•Router/VPN/Switch management and diagnostics via web console interfaces
